Are School Uniforms Beneficial or Not? (â€Å"Quotes about Uniform Policy† 1). Theodore R. Mitchell, UCLA School of Education says, I think its great news for all of us who have advocated school uniforms as a way of building community.† A pressing issue, bullying has become a big problem in many school, and to eliminate this problem, school policies should require students to wear uniforms. Many people believe that school uniforms build the community into a safer, more positive environment. School uniforms improve school academics, prevent gang violence, and assist families, who can not afford expensive clothing. Worrying more about others, rather than themselves, students pay more attention to the appearance of their peers instead of†¦show more content†¦Supporting the school uniform policy, if students dress equally; bullying amongst students will stop because everyone will look the same, and the students can focus more on their academics. . While school uniforms improve student academics, they also will steer students away from participating in gang violence. To start off, gang violence, a deadly activity, intimidates those who do not participate in it. Students will feel safer, and â€Å"gang attire [will not] intimidate† the other students, and they â€Å"[will not] feel challenged†(Valdez 247). By imposing a policy that students must wear school uniforms, it eliminates gang violence, such as rioting or gang colors, and students who felt intimidated before will feel more comfortable coming to school. Along with ending peer intimidation by gang members, since uniforms will promote a better environment gang members will not participate in gang related activities, and they will engage in other activities. Explaining his views, â€Å"Students can enjoy extracurricular school activities,† and enjoy their years in school, â€Å"rather than involved in gang activities,† and making a mistake t hat could make an everlasting impact on their future (Valdez 249).
